Pair of socks is an inner-wear:

Crazy Ideas

Pair of socks is an inner-wear:

Pair of socks is an inner-wear and not foot-wear or a foot-gear and it should be taken care of like one. Usually people keep the socks inside shoes after putting off their feet and do not place them on racks or hang them for drying-up their moisture. By doing so we deprive the socks of the importance, it should have been given over and above shoes.

Socks are worn for protecting our feet from the hard inner surface of shoes. They also absorb sweat of our feet and keep it dry and comfortable. Socks also collect the dead skin cells frequently discarded by the thick skin of out soles.

We may keep the following in our mind in order to get maximum benefits from socks:

  1. Always wear socks with shoes.
  2. Never insert your socks inside shoes after putting them off.
  3. Hang your socks on a hanger or spread on a rack after taking them off.
  4. Wash your socks after wearing them for a day.
  5. If socks were not washed regularly and frequently, the dead skin cells would stick within the fabric and stink when decomposed.

Why rainwater stagnates in New Delhi?

© Harish Jharia

This is the most difficult question as on today when the Commonwealth Games are knocking at our doors and we seem to be caught unawares.

Nevertheless, the answer to this question is as simple as 2 + 2 = 4.

The answer is that the drains laid along the roads leading to the main drainage pipes are clogged with trash, mud, pebbles and debris.  The water will not clog and will flow down the drains if the drains are kept clean. For that the municipal corporation and civil administration has to do their normal day-to-day job. They need not do any thing overtime. The officials, staff and workmen need to do average normal office work and field job for that they are drawing monthly salaries for their bread and butter.

If we stop anywhere on a New Delhi road and peep into the drain running alongside the road, underneath the road divider or right below the foot path; you will find the drains full of stinking trash, filth and debris. This very stinking waste left unattended is solely responsible for the widespread water logging in the Indian Capital.

The solution to this mammoth problem is also as simple as 2 + 2 = 4.

The civic authorities are required to feel a little civic responsibility.  The solution is to just remove the trash and debris from the drains and you are done.  That is fine that the municipal corporation is responsible for doing this cleaning job. Yet, the other civic authorities are also responsible to watch that the drains are being kept clean and in working order. Who has stopped the district authorities from stopping their cars at the side of any road and check for themselves whether the drains are really maintained in good condition so much so that thy should be able to carry the rain water under heavy rains in the city.

Even the MLAs, MPs and any minister may also send any of their subordinates to find out whether the drains in their constituencies and jurisdiction are kept in good working condition.

The taxpayer would like the municipal staff and workmen to takeover the cleaning task right away and make the drainage system functional. The district authorities should also watch whether the job is done right away and in a satisfactory manner. Ministries may also tighten up their officers and staff to keep a watchful eye on the effective, efficient and high quality drainage system in the capital of the largest democracy on this planet.

We should shed away the old superstitious myth that working on drainage system is a low grade work. Cleaning our surroundings is the primary requirement for maintaining the high grade of life rather than living with stinking trash all around us.

Crazy Ideas: Exercise and workout are not luxuries:

© Harish Jharia

A young woman asked her health expert to tell her the easiest ways to keep trim, fit and healthy. She was caught unawares when the expert advised her to remove her house maid and do the ‘jhadoo – pochha’ (sweeping and wiping the floors of her house) in her place. Nevertheless, the guru smiled and continued that he did not mean that. He was rather trying to convey that the people who are active and do hard work, are by default fit and healthy. They do not even suffer from obesity, diabetes and hypertension

We usually try to copy the film and showbiz celebrities who have their own private gyms and health instructors employed for them. They do workouts and various exercises for shaping their bodies and forming muscles rather than doing it for keeping fit and healthy.

We as common people should go for workout that needs no appliances and employees like instructors. Exercising is not a luxury. It is rather a struggle where you need to drench in sweat, accelerate your heart beats and go breathless. Just go to the nearest jogger’s park at 6am and run for 30 – 45 minutes and that is all. I am sure that you will keep fit, trim and healthy.

How Hard Should Our Morning Walks, Jogs and Workouts Be?

New Delhi, India

- Harish Jharia

For keeping fit we opt for any exercise out of morning walks, jogs and workouts, suiting to our age, our life-styles and profession. While doing so we need to know as to how hard our exercise should be. Some of us run very fast and finish it within 10 – 15 minutes; whereas, there are many others who go for a jog and continue for 20 – 25 minutes. People of 40 plus age go for brisk walks that last for 30 – 35 minutes. I think that the intensity of our workouts should be suitably moderated and should be prolonged for about 30 – 40 minutes.

I am a workout enthusiast. I started 6 -7 miles morning running in my school days and continued some or the other workouts with the passage of time and age. Today I go for 5km brisk walk in the morning followed by stretching exercises. With this I feel fit, fine and healthy.

The intensity of our workouts should be suitably moderated in order to prolong for about 30 – 40 minutes.

I have reached to a conclusion that our workouts should be in the following manner:

We should do workouts to the extent that we go almost breathless, we drench in sweat and our heart-beats increase (for a healthy young person).
We should go for running, walking or other workouts preferably in the morning.
We should wakeup at 5am and finish our morning daily chores before going for workouts.
For waking up at 5am in the morning we need to go to bed by 10pm positively for having 6 hour plus sleep at night.
We should start our workouts at 5:45 – 6:00am.
Youngsters should go for brisk running for 5km approx.
30 plus youngsters should go for 30 – 45 minutes jogs.
40 plus people should go for 5km brisk morning walks.
60 plus people can also go for brisk morning walks depending on their physique and health. Alternatively they may go for moderate morning walks for a distance that they feel comfortable.

People of all the ages should go for workouts as all of us are fit for workouts depending on our age, physique and health. Morning workouts keep our body fit, fine and healthy. We breathe plenty of fresh air in the morning that helps rejuvenate our body with Oxygen and makes our body internally strong.

Morning workouts are more essential for heart patients and diabetics. By doing regular exercises their bodies will become stronger by shedding off harmful fats, controlling sugar levels, reducing bad cholesterol etc.

Nevertheless, it is better to take expert advice for heart patients to decide the intensity of the workout and for the period for which the exercise could be prolonged.

There was an army officer who had a passion for evening walks and was unfortunately a heart patient. He used to go for evening walks that usually prolonged for about 45 minutes plus, rendering him breathless and exhausted.  One evening, at the end of his rigorous walk he got a heart attack.

His mistake was that he used to exert himself beyond his capacity and did rigorous walks against the advice of his doctor. He should have rather opted for morning walks and that too should have been mild and non-exhaustive. We should remember that he was required to go for workouts, yet, in a better, mild and organized way.

Happy running, jogging and working-out…
