Gang Rape in Delhi, India: Indian government disrupts protest using water cannons, teargas shots and lathi charge

© Harish Jharia

Indian government has used Delhi police to disrupt the people’s movements and peaceful protest of youth activists demanding Death sentence for the culprits of the gang rape and removal of the Delhi Police Commissioner. It is claimed by some of the TV channels that before the police action some aggressive activists of rival students union intruded into the huge crowd of the peaceful agitators. These intruders along with some antisocial elements turned the peaceful agitation into crowd violence.

The Delhi Police took advantage of this violent turn of the agitators and started using force to disrupt the agitation.  The police used lathi charge (beating the agitators with sticks), opening water cannons on the boys and girls in extremely cold weather and forcefully evacuated the young agitators out of the India gate area.

This forceful undemocratic action was taken by the Congress lead central (federal) Government, nevertheless, the Congress Government of Delhi state openly opposed this action of Delhi Police and the Delhi Chief Minister demanded immediate removal of the Delhi Police Commissioner. The Delhi Chief Minister, of course, supported similar lathi charge on the youth activists when they tried to march towards her residence for meeting her on the previous day.

Meanwhile, the agitators assembled at the residence of Sonia Gandhi (leader of the UPA coalition government at the center) who promised them to bring suitable legislation for amendment in the constitution and make stringent law in order to create deterrent against such heinous rape crimes.

On the following day the Indian Prime Minister telecasted a 5 minute message to the nation appealing to all sections of the society to maintain peace and help the government in their efforts. He assured the nation for making all possible efforts to ensure security and safety to all women in this country. The PM readout a five minute address, written in a common official language and lacked the expected feelings, sympathy and compassion suiting to the highly emotional environment across the country.

By the hasty police action the Indian government has landed itself in an unprecedented critical situation when the Congress in particular is passing through its lowest profile. This undemocratic blunder resulted in confusion across various segments of the governance like political circle, Ministry of Home Affairs, Delhi Police and the concerned hospitals were the victim was admitted.

The Delhi Police:

In addition to the above one more controversy surfaced when Delhi Police booked 6-7 youth activists on the charges of murder of a police constable who died at the place of agitation out of cardiac arrest. Nevertheless, the arrested young men were released on bail on the next day.

The police claimed that the police constable got the fatal heart attack after serious injuries on his chest, stomach and neck. The police stated that these claims were based on the postmortem reports. However, the medical superintendent of the hospital where the constable was admitted for treatment has given different observation. He stated that the constable had a severe heart attack and he did not inflicted with any serious internal or external injuries.

The police then cremated the body of the constable on the next morning putting a final stop on the case and any possibilities of repeat postmortem for conformation of correctness of the first postmortem report, if any.

The victim:

Meanwhile the gang rape victim was struggling for survival in the hospital and was undergoing multiple surgeries, hi-tech tests and most advanced medications. In spite of all that treatment the victim of inhuman deadly multiple rapes, cruel beatings, injuries to her vital organs and slitting allover her body by the rapists continued to hang between life and death. She continued to be admitted in the ICU throughout her stay in the Indian hospital.

One fine morning, the Indian government shifted the rape victim from the Indian Hospital in New Delhi to the Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore. It is believed that the victim’s certain vital organ was malfunctioning and a major portion of her intestine was removed in the Indian hospital; eventually,   she was shifted to Singapore for multiple organ transplant surgeries.

This gang rape case is going to be recorded in Indian history books for the brutal sexual assault and murderous attack on the helpless victim. It will also be remembered for the peculiar behavior of the Indian Government and Delhi Police.

Gang rape in New Delhi, India on 16 December 2012: India ashamed on the inhuman act of its citizens

© Harish Jharia

Delhi witnessed it’s never before, barbaric gang rape of a 22 year girl committed by six goons on 18 December 2012 on a luxury bus running on a busy road of a posh colony. This bus operated as a school bus in daytime and was driven away in the late evening by its driver for a joy ride along with his cleaner and four friends. This gang of six young ruffians first drank liquor and ate chicken in the bus, before venturing out at 9pm. They decided to ferry late evening passengers for earning extra money and buy yet more liquor for drinking.

Their first prey was a lone young man who was returning back from his office to home. The bus crew offered him to drop at his desired place for 10 rupees. But, once the passenger boarded the bus they attacked him and looted approximately 1500 rupees and a mobile phone from him in the running vehicle. Then they stopped the vehicle and pushed the man out of the bus and drove away. The goons might have threatened their first victim before releasing him, so much so that he did not dare to report the burglary to the police.

It was about 9:30pm when the six ruffians drove ahead and spotted a young couple by the side of the road. The bus stopped at them and the crew offered them to carry to their destination for 10 rupees each. The young girl, a paramedical student and her friend boarded the bus. The impatient drunk ruffians started teasing the girl with lustful comments and filthy gestures in the running bus.

The young friend of the girl objected to the eve-teasing and the lewd advances of the bus crew. The 4-5 goons, out of the drunken bus crew of six, attacked the young man with an iron rod, blows and kicks, while one of them kept the bus driving on the busy roads. The young man fought to his capacity while his female companion also tried to resist the attackers and bit the hand of one of them.  But, the 5 drunken barbarians overpowered the young man, took the girl to the driver’s cabin and brutally raped her for more than an hour. The bus crew then stripped the girl and the young man before pushing them out of the bus at a secluded place.

The police lifted the injured paramedical girl student and her friend from the site and admitted them to the Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi.  The girl had multiple injuries all over her body and her vital organs were severely damaged. She was immediately sent to ICU and critical surgeries and advanced medication were administers to her for saving her life. The injured young man was discharged the next day. But the severely injured girl is still fighting for her survival in the ICU for the fourth day.

There are some instinctive observations that can be noticed from the successive events in this ghastly cruel incident:

The culprits:
  • The culprits must have been doing this burglary and gang rapes for quite some time. Because, their successive operations were obviously well organized and expertized.
  • The culprits must be having diversified criminal past in other criminal fields also. Because, the brutality with which they did all sorts of slitting, beating, battering etc on the helpless girl, can only be done by hardcore criminals with coldblooded and perverted mindset.
The Police:
  1. It is obviously clear that security arrangements by police were absent all around the places, wherever the ill-fated bus moved with the six ruffians, committing the brutal crime in the running bus.
  2. The Delhi police officers looked quite casual in their looks as well as in their statements while appearing on TV channels. The Police Commissioner found sitting upright only when he addressed a press conference with the Home Secretary.  Nevertheless, in all other interviews he appeared in reclined posture.
The people:
  1. It is reported that the injured girl and the boy were lying by the side of the road, without any clothes on their bodies, but, no one bothered to provide clothes to them or at least cover them with some bed sheet or cloth. People crowded around them but remained mere idle spectators.
  2. People who noticed the injured nude victims lying unattended should have immediately have provided first-aid, carried them to the hospital and informed the police on Police Control Room phone number 100.
The deterrent:
  1. The gang rape culprits should be awarded death sentence based on their deadly attack, multiple injuries, inflicting damage to her vital organs, so much so that she was about to die and is still under threat of death.
  2. The culprits deserve no lesser sentence than capital punishment because even if the girl victim of gang rape survives her deadly injuries, she will live like a dead-body.
  3. The culprits have almost butchered the girl in addition to the brutal gang-rape and the same should be treated as a murder.
  4. A dedicate amendment in the Indian constitution will have to be brought in the parliament, in order to pass a bill specifying a law for ‘death sentence for the rarest of the rare rape cases.
The women:
  1. Women activists and commentators should not mix-up this gang-rape with the possessiveness and protective instincts of their brothers, fathers and other family members.
  2. This is not the right time to justify and glorify skin-tight and revealing outfits adorned by modern women and girls.
  3. They should not justify late-night partying and midnight roaming around by women and girls on seclude roads and parks.
Women should beware of the fact that the Indian capital Delhi has figured as the topmost city in the country for its notoriety against women. It has recorded the highest number of rapes in 2011 and emerged as the most unsafe place for the female citizens.

Following are the figures of rape cases reported in the year 2011, according to the latest National Crime Records Bureau NCRB statistics: Delhi (572); Mumbai (221); Bhopal (100); Bangalore (97); Jaipur (92); Pune (79); Chennai (76); Ahmedabad (60); Hyderabad (59); Kolkata (46); Thiruvananthapuram (39); Lucknow (38); Kochi (30); Patna (27); Coimbatore (9).

In view of above, the Indian government and the Indian police should take revolutionary measure to create a strong deterrent against recurrence of such type of gang-rape in Delhi and else were in India.

Indian women and girls should avoid criticizing their family members for the possessiveness they have for their daughters. There is no justification in venturing out in the midnights and roam around on deserted roads on pleasure trips. Employers of women who work in shifts in their organizations should make adequate arrangements for women employees to drop them at their doorsteps.

The last but not the least requirement is that the police should ensure constant patrolling by PCR vans and deploy plainclothes policemen for nabbing antisocial elements and goons.

Editor's Page: Fake Prediction for End of the World on 21 December 2012 Proved Absolutely False

The doomsday or holocaust on 21 December proved fake

Friday, December 21, 2012; New Delhi, India

Today is 21 December 2012 and the sun has already risen in Australia and Asia.  The sun is going to rise in Europe and America in a few hours and declare the holocaust date of 21 December 2012. I am sure nothing bad or good is going to happen in the world just because of the Mayan prediction of the dooms day.

Now we should stop believing on any sorts of predictions based on any ancient or modern astrology; because, predictions for future happenings are not possible in the least.

For detailed information please read our article:

India Tops In Road Accidents Death Toll In The World: Are Accident Victims The Main Culprits..?

© Harish Jharia

In recent surveys, India has emerges as the most vulnerable country in respect of death tolls in road accidents. It is revealed from the statistics that 14 Indians died every hour in road accidents in the year 2009 and the annual death toll in road accidents in India is the whooping number of 135,000 deaths of humans in a year.

It looks as if human life has no worth in India because 14 deaths per hour looks like a massacre and not accidental deaths. But this is a fact that it happens out of accidents in India.
Such a high toll of human lives in road accidents raises questions in our minds as to…
Why only India and not America or Russia earned this horrific global distinction?
What are the factors responsible for such a high scale loss of lives in India?

Who should be held responsible for this indiscriminate human slaughter in this country?

The simple answer to these questions is that the system, the culture and the people of India are responsible for these unbelievable human killings in road accidents. Let us discuss these three factors individually:

The System: The system means the government and the authorities under the control of the governments should be held responsible for these deaths. The central (federal) government, the state governments, the highways / roads authorities and the respective police forces are responsible, at the first place, for their gross negligence and for failing to provide the basic facilities of road management and protecting the lives of the road-users in common public areas.  Let us list out some crucial points:
  1. The governmental authorities have not developed adequate infrastructures like broad roads, one-way roads, flyovers, walkovers, subways etc, for sustaining the huge traffic on the roads, well before permitting the automobile industries and automobile dealers to manufacture and sell billions of cars, bikes, scooters, buses, trucks, tankers in India.
  2. The authorities have not provided adequate traffic lights, on the intersections and road-crossings.
  3. The authorities do not provide adequate police personnel on the road crossings and along the roads for guiding and controlling the road traffic.
  4. The authorities have not made any training programs, workshops or refreshers’ courses for drivers, pedestrians and other road users for educating them about road safety and traffic rules.
  5. The authorities do not plan and implement any precautionary measure for avoiding probable road accidents.
The culture: India lacks in civic culture and public behavior in common public places mainly on roads. Venturing out on Indian roads is a nightmare for the drivers as well as the pedestrians, because, the other road users out there on the road, might do something disgusting and putting your life under deadly risk. Let us list out some crucial points:
  1. There is no meaning of one-way-roads in India because people use both the ‘to-and-fro’ roads independently and there is nobody to stop them from doing so.
  2. You will have to be watchful and careful while driving along a road divider, because, pedestrians might jump across the 3-4 feet high road divider and appear right in front of your car.
  3. You should be watchful and careful with other drivers who might appear right in front of your car from right, left or center.
  4. Blowing horn or honking loud might not deter some particular pedestrians because; their ears might be plugged with earphones blaring with yet louder music from their mobile phones.
  5. Indian roads are indiscriminately open for bicycle riders and cycle-rickshaws, those never follow any traffic rules and do not stop at red traffic lights.
  6. Motorbike riders and auto rickshaw drivers are the other law breakers those do not follow traffic rules and create problems for other road users.
  7. The most dangerous entities among Indian road users are the commercial vehicles like taxis  school buses, city buses, trucks, tankers and tractors. The commercial automobile drivers drive rash and commit the maximum road traffic crimes.
The people: We, the people of India, are responsible for all these accidental mishaps that are happening with us and occurring right in front of us. We are the people, who are running the governments, drive automobiles, move around on roads and carry the legacy of culture. Therefore, we will have to improve upon ourselves rather than accusing the governments and authorities. Let us list out some crucial points:
  1. To know how the common people are responsible for road accidents, an advertisement of CEAT Bike Tires with the title “The streets are filled with idiots” conveys a clear message.  Pleas click on the title and watch the commercial video on YouTube.
  2. We, as pedestrians and bicycle riders, break traffic rules the most and become the worst sufferers of road accident deaths. Therefore, we will have to follow all the traffic rules while walking on the roads or riding bicycles.
  3. We should not drive vehicles under intoxication.
  4. We should not use mobile phones while driving.
  5. We should not eat breakfast while driving.
  6. We should not let our minor children (without driving license) drive automobiles.
  7. We should follow all the traffic rules and drive vehicles with patience.
  8. We should not lose our temper out of road rage while driving.
  9. We should ensure that the steering, accelerator, brake and clutch of our vehicle are in perfect working condition.
  10. We should ensure that the front wheels of our car are balanced by an expert technician.

Editors Page: Discover Life Opens a New Section ‘Superstitions’ On the Magic Date 12.12.12

India is one of the most superstitious countries in the world

© Harish Jharia

Today’s date is 12.12.12… the magic figure that would not repeat in our life time. The world will have to wait for another 100 years for this date to repeat. Even the latest similar combination of day, month and year that is 01.01.01 will fall only after 89 years.

I do not believe on numerology, astrology or any sort of predictions based on numbers, dates of birth or constellations of planets and stars. Nevertheless, I do give importance to such magic figures that do not repeat in our lifetime.

I came across with a similar combination of figures on 11.11.11 and I took that opportunity for opening a new section for Senior Citizens. I would again mark today’s occasion of another magic figure 12.12.12 for opening a new section ‘Superstitions’ that will cover the deep rooted superstitions and misbeliefs spread among the Indian people.

I would like to mention here that I have already started a mission against the most deadly superstition Manglik ‘Syndrome’ or ‘Manglik Dosha’. You will find many articles on this subject in our site ‘Discover life’. I have also opened an active Group “Mission against Superstitious Manglik Syndrome / मांगलिक अंधविश्वास विरोधी मिशन” on Fasebook. Visitors would like to join the same.

End of the World on The Doomsday Catastrophe on 21 December 2012, The Holocaust प्रलय... Is it really possible..?

© Harish Jharia

We have been hearing about the predicted holocaust on 21 December 2012 for many years. Even a Hollywood movie has been made on this subject, showing the entire world submerged under sea water and the absolute end of nature and life on the planet earth.

I do not know why I never got scared about this theory of abrupt devastation of Mother Nature on a particular single day. I always believed that the earth, nature and life took billions of years for its creation. Therefore, its devastation like holocaust प्रलय should also take the same length of time. The end of the world cannot happen abruptly in a day. Nevertheless, the doomsday December 21, 2012 is widely discussed among the believers and nonbelievers of this hypothetical imaginary catastrophe, across the electronic and print media.

What is the basis of 21 December 2012 doomsday prediction..?

As I have understood from various concerned material, the dooms day has been predicted based on the Mayan Calendar according to which the earth has been created with a specific age and once it completes the span of its age the earth will be devastated with occurrence of holocaust प्रलय on 21 December 2012.

According to Mayan beliefs certain cataclysmic or transformative events will occur on 21 December 2012 when this date is regarded as the end-date of a 5125-year-long cycle in the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar. Using a modified vigesimal (base 20 numeral system) tally, the Long Count calendar identifies the doomsday by counting the number of days passed since an imaginary date of creation of the world, believed to have started from 11 August 3114 BCE in the Gregorian calendar.
                           Mayan Calendar

Who were the Mayan People..?

The Maya people were the combined tribes of diverse ranges of native Americans hailing from northern Mexico and southern central America. The term "Maya" is a collective designation including the peoples of the region who shared similar cultural and linguistic heritage. Moreover, the term Maya represents many distinct populations, societies, and ethnic groups, following their own particular traditions, cultures, and historical identity.

How far the belief of Doomsday, Holocaust, प्रलय on 21 December 2012 is true..?
  1. The belief about the holocaust प्रलय is absolutely wrong because it is based on unscientific theories.
  2. This doomsday has been calculated with the knowhow of astrology prevalent in the prehistoric era when the modern scientific theories were not discovered.
  3. This doomsday has been predicted out of folkloric astrological calculations that cannot be considered dependable and believed indiscriminately.
  4. The rumor about 21 December 2012 has spread out of viral internet spams and should be simply ignored.
  5. 21st December 2012 is going to be a normal day just like anyother day of our common life.
  6. We should not get scared about any abnormal happening like meteoric bombardment, devastation due to earthquakes, natural calamities like tsunamis   or submerging of world under deep waters.
  7. 21st December 2012 is not going to be any doomsday of holocaust प्रलय and we all should live our normal and fearless lives.

Foreign Direct Investment FDI in retail: Is FDI beneficial for India and Indian People..?

© Harish Jharia

What is Foreign Direct Investment, FDI..?

As far as I have understood, FDI is direct investment of money by a foreign company, in the production sector or in retail business in any host country.  This investment of capital would be either by buying a company in the proposed country or by expanding operations of any existing foreign business in that country. Foreign direct investment is made with many facilities to the investor like advantage of cheaper wages, tax exemptions offered by the host country as an incentive to gain tariff-free access to the markets.

Foreign direct investment should not be confused with ‘portfolio investment’ which is a passive investment in the shares / securities of another country such as stocks and bonds; basically meant for earning forfeits without opening offices, factories, shopping complexes and generating employment for the local masses in the host country.

Miserable condition in India without FDI:

India is one of the poorest countries in the world. India is one of the most corrupt countries in the world. India has few of the richest individuals in the world and at the same time India has millions of the poorest individuals in the world most of whom do not have clothes to cover their bodies, do not have shelters on their heads and who die out of  starvation. There are reports in the media that poor starving villagers in Bundelkhand and Orissa had resorted to eat grass-seed flour and roasted rodents for filling up their bellies.

Millions of tons of precious food grains are rotting directly under the sky and rains in the open-air warehouses of Food corporation of India. There are almost no warehouses provided for the harvested grains in the agricultural villages in India. Such absence of agricultural infrastructure, results in rotting of the food grains, due to untimely rains, either in un-harvested condition in the fields or in stored state in the open fields. Millions of tons of food grains are perished just because of absence of basic infrastructure in the rural India.

In the high altitude Himalayan stats like Jammu Kashmir , Himachal Pradesh etc thousands of tons of apple and other fruits are thrown away in the valleys in absence of fruit processing industries and proper cold storage warehouses in those areas. Similarly vegetables like tomato, onion and potato are spoiled in absence of proper storage infrastructure in different parts of India.

The funds and resources approved by the central government if India and various state governments do not reach the rural poor citizens of India and the backward interior areas. As a result of the same it has been proved that the current government machinery functioning in India has failed to prove its worth by benefiting the farmers, producers and consumers of India. Therefore, it the high time to try foreign investment and financial management of the funds invested in this sector by dependable and honest organizations and individuals.

How FDI is beneficial for India..?

Indian Parliament discussed about acceptance of Foreign Direct Investment FDI on 5 December 2012, followed by voting for and against its acceptance by the government of India.  In spite of the fact that the majority of the members of parliament, MPs, were against the concept of FDI, nevertheless, the result was just other way round. The proposal of FDI was accepted after voting by the MPs.

The proposal for acceptance of FDI was accepted in the Lok Sabha, with 254 votes for FDI and 224 votes against it. The entire drama played in the lower house of Indian Parliament was more a political exercise and a number-game rather than a landmark trade & economic resolution passed in the largest democracy in the world.

In spite of the above, let us enumerate the benefits of FDI for India in the following points:
  1. Common people of India will be benefited the most because the prices will come down to the minimal and there will be ample supply of essential commodities in the market.
  2. With the introduction FDI the prices of essential commodities will be reduced to the minimal; because, the commissions charged by at least 3-4 stages between the producer and the retailer will be completely eliminated.
  3. Similarly, the bribery by government servants and political authorities will be checked.
  4. The farmers and producers of the products will get better and adequate price for their items sold to the merchant agency.
  5. The poverty will be checked in the rural India because the farm laborers and skilled workers will get employment and have job security.
  6. The villagers will not die of starvation and will not commit suicide because of poverty and indebtedness.
  7. Agricultural infrastructure like cold storage, warehouses, protected go-downs etc will be provided and loss of products would be checked and eliminated thereby the resultant yield of the country will be enhanced.
  8. Food processing industries will be built with the help of foreign investment and the wastage of fruits and vegetables would be checked effectively.

Housekeeping and Hygiene: Keep your floors neat, clean and dry with Super Absorbent PVA Mops

© Harish Jharia

India is situated in the tropical zone. Therefore the floors in the houses, offices and factories in this country are made of cement, marble tiles or ceramic tiles. In fact tiled floors are more appropriate in the ever-changing hot, cold and humid climates in the tropical countries like India.

The residential houses in the countries situated in temperate zones are provided with carpeted and wooden floorings suitable for subzero temperature. The bathrooms in the US are also typically designed with separate shower-chambers and bathtubs, leaving the rest of the floor neat, clean and dry.

In India also the upper-class and upper-middle-class houses are equipped with such type of bathrooms. Nevertheless, most of the Indian bathrooms and restrooms are susceptible to spilling of water all over the main floor. In fact the Indian bathrooms are quite small with an area of more or less 6’x6’.  The main floor of the bathrooms is usually flooded with bathing water after each use.   Therefore, it is essential for the user to wipe the floor immediately after its use for keeping the bathrooms neat, clean and dry.

The conventional way of keeping our bathrooms clean and dry is wiping the floor with the help of wipers. In spite of the above practice, the floor remains considerably wet that takes quite some time for drying up. In summers such bathrooms take at about half-an-hour to dry up, whereas, in rainy seasons drying up of bathrooms may even take 4 to 6 hours.

This problem can be solved by mopping the floor with the help of PVA Mops that are available in the market. These mops are made of super absorbent sponge that can absorb 12 times of its dried mass. We may mop our floors with the help of Super Absorbent PVA Mops after the floor is wiped with the help of a wiper. With this additional application of mop the floor of our bathrooms will dry up instantly and make it ready for reuse.

What is PVA...?

PVA stands for Polyvinyl Alcohol. PVA is a synthetic sponge composed of Polyvinyl Alcohol. It possesses a 'three dimensional open cell structure' similar to that of the natural sea sponge. Its physical structure is that all of its cells are interconnected and not independent.

PVA sponge is capable of absorbing water up to 12 times of its dry weight. Initially PVA is a hard substance but when saturated with water, it becomes flexible and soft like natural sea sponge. PVA exhibits mechanical strength and abrasion equal to or greater than any other synthetic sponge. Pore size and shape of PVA can vary to meet different specified applications. Wet PVA sponge will withstand temperatures upto 90 degrees C without any deformation of the PVA material.
